Full Description

Stephen Baughen, 43, a father from Bexleyheath, was convicted of sexual offences against three young girls, demonstrating a persistent danger to underage females. The offences began in August 2020 when Baughen initiated contact with a 14-year-old girl via Instagram, sending her explicit sexual messages. Around the same period, he targeted another 14-year-old girl with similar inappropriate communications, including a photograph of an erect penis, presumed to be his own.

Despite being arrested on suspicion of these offences, Baughen was released under investigation. Undeterred, in August 2023, he contacted a 13-year-old girl and sent her sexual messages. The young victim responded by calling him a 'nonce', highlighting her awareness of his predatory behaviour. Baughen’s actions spanned several months and involved grooming attempts through social media.

A jury at the court unanimously found Baughen guilty of the sexual offences. In January 2025, the judge sentenced him to six years' imprisonment, describing him as a 'danger to young girls'. The Metropolitan Police provided custody images and details of the case, as reported by the Romford Recorder, emphasising the severity of online grooming risks.
