Full Description

A 54-year-old man from Liverpool, Ibrahim Cetin, has been sentenced to 16 years in prison following his conviction for a series of serious sexual and violent offences against a woman and two boys in Oxton. The case, prosecuted at Liverpool Crown Court, highlights the devastating impact of prolonged abuse within a community setting.

The offences came to light in February 2025 when two boys reported to Merseyside Police that they had been abused by Cetin on multiple occasions. These reports detailed instances of assault and child cruelty, prompting an immediate investigation. Cetin was arrested on suspicion of assault shortly thereafter. Further inquiries revealed that since December 2024, Cetin had also raped and repeatedly assaulted a woman, escalating the severity of the charges against him.

Following his initial arrest, Cetin faced additional charges for rape, actual bodily harm, and child cruelty. He denied all allegations, forcing his victims to endure a trial. However, a jury at Liverpool Crown Court found him guilty on all counts on 6 October 2025. In addition to the custodial sentence, Cetin has been placed on the Sex Offender’s Register indefinitely, ensuring ongoing monitoring to protect the public.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson of Merseyside Police commented on the case, stating: “Cetin subjected his victims to serious physical harm and violence on numerous occasions. They have all shown immeasurable bravery in coming forward and telling us exactly what happened to them. Cetin also forced his victims to go through a trial after he denied the offences, but thankfully a jury saw through his lies and he was rightly convicted.” Atkinson further emphasised the force's commitment to tackling such crimes, underscoring the long-lasting trauma inflicted on the victims.

The sentencing reflects the gravity of Cetin's actions, which involved sexual exploitation and violence against vulnerable individuals, including children. This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of reporting abuse, as detailed in official reports from Merseyside Police published on 8 October 2025.
