Full Description

David Whitehall, a 37-year-old man from Dover in Kent, was sentenced to three years and two months in prison at Canterbury Crown Court on April 8, 2024, following his guilty pleas to multiple child sex offences and assault.

On January 16, 2024, Kent Police officers attended Whitehall's address in Dover after identifying that he had purchased a new smartphone and begun communicating with children online. During the arrest, Whitehall resisted violently, punching an officer in the face and attempting to kick and shove other officers who arrived to assist. He was subsequently charged with eight offences, including making an indecent photograph of a child and assaulting an emergency worker.

Investigators examined Whitehall's devices and discovered that he had been sending explicit photos of himself to young people and requesting inappropriate images in return. Multiple indecent images of children were found, including 27 videos classified in the most serious category A. This conviction marks a repeat offence for Whitehall, who had previously been subject to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order following a 2016 conviction at Canterbury Crown Court for possession of indecent images of children.

Whitehall was remanded in custody and pleaded guilty at his first hearing at Folkestone Magistrates’ Court on January 17, 2024. Detective Constable Marie-Anne Boulton of Kent Police commented: “Whitehall is a prolific child abuser, who has shown time and time again that he poses a serious risk to young people. I am pleased that, thanks to the swift actions of officers monitoring his behaviour, Whitehall has been returned to prison, where he can no longer pose a threat to some of the most vulnerable members of our community.” The case was reported by News Shopper on April 13, 2024, highlighting the ongoing efforts of Kent Police to monitor individuals under sexual harm prevention orders.
