Full Description

David Baldwin, a 74-year-old resident of Kingsley Green in Kingsley, Cheshire, has been sentenced to three years in prison after being found guilty of subjecting a young girl to horrifying sexual abuse. Baldwin, who formerly worked as a DJ at the Britannia Bell Public House in Helsby, carried out the systematic abuse against a victim under the age of 14 during the late 1980s and early 1990s.

The case came to light following a three-day trial at Chester Crown Court, which concluded on 22 September 2021. Baldwin was convicted on three counts of indecent assault on a girl under 14. On 23 September 2021, he was sentenced to three years' imprisonment and ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely. The court heard details of the depraved acts committed by Baldwin, which were described as truly horrifying and something no child should have to endure.

Detective Constable Andrew Kevin from Cheshire Constabulary’s Sex Offender Management Unit commented on the case, stating: “What Baldwin did to her is truly horrifying, and something that no child should have to experience.” He praised the victim's bravery in coming forward despite fearing the consequences, noting that her courage ensured Baldwin's actions finally caught up with him. The officer emphasised the importance of reporting such crimes, regardless of how long ago they occurred, to support victims and bring perpetrators to justice.

This conviction highlights the long-term impact of child sexual abuse and the ongoing efforts by Cheshire Constabulary to manage and prosecute sex offenders. Baldwin's actions, spanning over a decade ago, demonstrate that justice can be pursued even after many years, providing some measure of closure for the victim and her family.
