Offence Summary

Sharon Campbell, partner of former police officer Alexander McCracken, was jailed for possessing and distributing indecent images of children and plotting to conceive a baby for sexual abuse.

Full Description

Sharon Campbell, the former partner of disgraced ex-police officer Alexander McCracken, was sentenced alongside him in 2015 to four-and-a-half years in prison for her involvement in possessing and distributing indecent images of children. The couple, who shared horrific child abuse material online, plotted to conceive a baby together for the purpose of sexual abuse, with Campbell participating in their depraved discussions. At Ayr Sheriff Court, she admitted to three charges related to the images, which included over 500 hardcore depictions, 33 of the most severe category, shared among paedophiles from July 2012 to October 2013.

The court's revelations included the couple's self-description as a 'no limits pedo couple, especially love newborn baby', with plans to 'breed a baby boy' for abuse immediately after birth. Campbell was released around the same time as McCracken in December 2018 and, like him, was placed on the sex offenders register indefinitely, issued a ten-year Sexual Offences Prevention Order, banned from contact with her child from a previous relationship, and prohibited from using internet-accessible devices. The article highlights the couple's joint criminal activities, stemming from police investigations that began with a 2010 raid on McCracken's Ayr home, though the sharing offences occurred later.

A source anonymous to the Leader Live raised broader concerns about the case, noting the lack of remorse from those involved and the ongoing risks post-release, though specific details on Campbell's current situation are limited compared to McCracken's. Scottish Conservative shadow justice secretary Liam Kerr commented on the horror of such crimes, emphasising public fury over the offenders' freedom. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service confirmed no active cases for McCracken, implying the same for Campbell in this context. The case underscores the severe nature of their offences and the long-term restrictions imposed to protect the public.
