Full Description

Jamie Critchley, a 46-year-old man from Belvedere Road in Newton-le-Willows, was jailed for four years at Liverpool Crown Court after committing sexual offences against two teenage girls in a park.

The incident occurred when Critchley, under the influence of a cocktail of alcohol and diazepam, exposed himself to the youngsters and encouraged them to engage in sexual activity. This dreadful behaviour had a disastrous effect, leaving one of the victims stating that she 'sees his face every time she closes her eyes'. The mother of one victim tearfully told the judge, 'he's ruined my daughter's life', highlighting the profound impact on the family.

Critchley stood trial at Liverpool Crown Court, where he was found guilty of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity and exposure. He was cleared of a charge of sexual assault by the jury. Appearing via video link from HMP Liverpool, dressed in a grey Berghaus tracksuit top, Critchley showed no immediate remorse as the sentence was passed. The court heard details of how his actions were premeditated and predatory in nature.

Merseyside Police investigated the case, leading to Critchley's arrest and subsequent prosecution. The sentencing took place in late December 2024, ensuring he would spend the new year behind bars. This case underscores the severe consequences for those who target vulnerable young people in public spaces.
