Offence Summary

A brothel owner trafficked vulnerable women for sexual exploitation across multiple Kent locations, controlling them through debt and coercion, leading to her arrest with significant criminal proceeds.

Full Description

Chung Fu Wang, 44, from Cambridge, was jailed as the ringleader of a sex trafficking operation that exploited vulnerable women at 50 locations across the UK, including several in Kent such as Canterbury, Chatham, Dartford, Gillingham, Maidstone, and Tunbridge Wells. Wang, a brothel owner, forced women – some brought illegally into the country – into prostitution to repay family debts, coercing them into unprotected sex and isolating them from support.

Police body-worn footage captured Wang's arrest in August 2021 at her Bartlow Road home, where she attempted to hide items as officers explained the search. Six mobile phones were seized from the floor during her handcuffing, and bank statements revealed £430,000 in criminal proceeds. Victims reported confusion and fear, with one having 'no idea where she was'. Wang controlled the operation, advertising and managing the women's work.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Wang pleaded guilty to conspiracy to control prostitution for gain and acquiring criminal property, receiving five years and eight months' imprisonment. Her co-conspirators, Yuan Hang and Lina Wang, were also sentenced for their roles. The investigation by Kent Police and partners uncovered the network's extent, with footage showing Wang's direct involvement in the exploitation.

This case, detailed in KentOnline, exposes the hidden scourge of sexual exploitation in Kent, with Judge Philip Statman condemning the callous profiteering from vulnerable lives. The sentences aim to dismantle such rings and support victim recovery.
