Full Description

A 31-year-old man from Portsmouth, Jack Thomas Heasman, has been sentenced to four years' imprisonment following his admission of raping a woman in November 2020. The incident occurred at the victim's address in Waterlooville, where Heasman assaulted a 22-year-old woman on Saturday, 15 November 2020.

Heasman, residing on Byron Road in the Buckland area of Portsmouth, appeared at Winchester Crown Court on Friday, 13 October 2023, where he pleaded guilty to the charge of rape. The court imposed a custodial sentence of four years and required him to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life, reflecting the severity of the offence under UK law.

Detective Sergeant Harry Wilson of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary commented on the case, stating: 'I hope that this result reassures our community that we take these allegations very seriously, and that this behaviour will not be tolerated.' He further praised the victim's courage, noting: 'We would like to commend the victim for her bravery throughout the investigation and to thank her for having the courage to report this to us. We will relentlessly pursue offenders to secure justice for their victims.' The force emphasised their commitment to supporting victims of sexual assault and pursuing perpetrators.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts by Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary to address serious sexual offences, with the incident reported promptly after it occurred, leading to Heasman's arrest and subsequent prosecution. The sentencing serves as a deterrent against such crimes in the region.
