Full Description

On 15 March 2023, in Huntingdonshire, Kemzi Ogbonna, a 39-year-old man from Stoke-on-Trent, carried out a sexual assault on a female colleague. He approached her from behind, hugged her tightly with both hands around her chest, attempted to kiss her, and suggested that they should be in a relationship. The woman resisted his advances, prompting Ogbonna to apologise, claiming his actions were a 'mistake'.

The following week, Ogbonna escalated his behaviour by exposing himself to the same woman and asking her to touch him. These incidents were not immediately reported to authorities, as the victim initially did not recognise the full illegality of Ogbonna's actions. It was only later that year, after confiding in a friend who explained the criminal nature of the assaults, that the woman reported the matter to the police.

Ogbonna, residing at Dawlish Drive in Stoke-on-Trent, denied the charges but was found guilty of sexual assault and exposure following a trial at Cambridge Crown Court on 8 August 2024. The court heard evidence detailing how Ogbonna exploited the victim's reluctance to report, believing she would remain silent.

Sentencing took place on 20 September 2024 at the same court, where Judge [name not specified] imposed a 14-month custodial sentence on Ogbonna, along with a five-year restraining order to protect the victim. PC Lomas-Farley of Cambridgeshire Constabulary commented on the case, stating: 'Ogbonna knew it was unlikely his victim would report his actions and used this to his advantage. I am pleased she had the support and courage to come forward. I hope the sentence will reassure her and women everywhere that this type of behaviour must never be accepted – it should always be challenged and reported.' The case was investigated and prosecuted by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, highlighting their commitment to addressing sexual offences in the community.
