Offence Summary

Hussain Sardar was convicted of one count of rape at age 15 and sentenced to six years' detention in a young offenders' institution.

Full Description

Hussain Sardar, known as Dolly, aged 19 from Bradford Street, Lawkholme, Keighley, was convicted of raping a schoolgirl as part of the Keighley gang's child sexual exploitation from 2011 to 2012. At the time of the offence, he was 15 and received six years' detention in a young offenders' institution for one count of rape.

The gang of 12, arranged by Arif Choudhury, targeted the vulnerable 13-14-year-old for abuse, including on Dalton Lane. Judge Roger Thomas adjusted the sentence to reflect Sardar's youth and the victim's description of his 'somewhat pathetic participation'. The trial at Bradford Crown Court highlighted the group's demeaning behaviour.

West Yorkshire Police's efforts led to the convictions after a lengthy investigation. The judge's remarks focused on the overall contempt shown by the defendants, with sentencing post the December trial conclusion.

Judge Thomas said the sentence reflected his then age of 15 years and the victim’s description of his “somewhat pathetic participation.”
