Full Description

Corie Adams, an 18-year-old man formerly from Maltby in Rotherham, South Yorkshire, has been sentenced to nine years in prison for a series of horrific child sex offences committed against seven vulnerable young girls. The attacks, described by prosecutors as 'hideous', involved grooming, rape, and sexual abuse, with Adams using social media platforms to target his victims and deceiving them about his age to facilitate the exploitation.

The offences occurred between January 2015 and early 2016. Adams admitted to 17 charges in total, including 11 offences against two girls aged 13 and two aged 14, and a further six offences against three girls aged between 12 and 14. These included six counts of sexual activity with a child, one count of rape, three counts of causing a child to engage in sexual activity, four counts of inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, two counts of causing a child to watch a sexual act, and one count of grooming. He pleaded guilty to all charges at Sheffield Crown Court.

Following a joint operation by South Yorkshire Police and Rotherham Council, Adams was arrested and charged. Mark Langan from the Crown Prosecution Service stated: 'It is clear that Corie Adams preyed upon vulnerable young girls for his own sexual satisfaction. He was well aware how young the girls were, and in some instances lied about his own age in order to incite them into sexual activity, frequently initiating contact through social media.' Detective Inspector John Fitzgibbons from South Yorkshire Police commended the victims for their 'incredible bravery' and noted that the sentencing would provide an 'opportunity to begin to heal from this horrific abuse'. He added that Adams had been remanded in custody since earlier in the year due to the risk he posed to young people in Rotherham, and the sentence reflected the gravity of his crimes.

In addition to the nine-year custodial sentence, Adams has been placed on the sex offender register for life. The case highlights the dangers of online grooming and the importance of vigilance in protecting children from sexual exploitation, as reported by the BBC on 29 November 2016.
