Full Description

A paedophile from Bletchley, Milton Keynes, has been sentenced to 19 years in prison following convictions for serious child sex offences and a violent assault committed while on bail.

Frank Mooney, aged 36, was found guilty at St Albans Crown Court of inciting a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and two counts of sexual assault against the same child. These offences came to light after Hertfordshire Constabulary received reports in May 2022, leading to his initial arrest and charges. For these sexual crimes, Mooney was sentenced to 16 years' imprisonment. In addition, he was added to the sex offenders' register and made subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order to protect the public from further harm.

While on bail awaiting trial for the sex offences, Mooney became involved in a violent incident on July 23, 2022, at an address in Borehamwood, Hertfordshire. During an altercation with a man and a woman, he punched the man and stabbed him in the shoulder with a knife. The victim's injuries were not life-threatening. Mooney pleaded guilty to wounding with intent, common assault, and possession of a knife in relation to this event, resulting in an additional three years added to his sentence.

The sentencing took place on March 2, 2024, at St Albans Crown Court. DC Jacqueline Oliver of Hertfordshire Constabulary commended the bravery of the child victim and her family, stating: 'The bravery of the victim and her family has assisted in sending a dangerous offender to jail for many years. I hope this result can provide them with some sense of closure, having seen her abuser brought to justice. I'd like to take this opportunity to stress that we take all reports of abuse seriously. We are here to hold offenders to account and will always support the victim throughout the investigative process.' This case underscores Hertfordshire Constabulary's commitment to pursuing justice in child protection matters.
