Offence Summary

Bardhyl Mustafaj from Greenwich was jailed for eight years for four counts of rape committed in 2019.

Full Description

Bardhyl Mustafaj, 64, of Coupland Place in Greenwich, was convicted of rape and sentenced to eight years in prison after his DNA was found on a teddy bear touched during the attack.

Mustafaj had visited the victim's home near Hampstead Heath to fix a lightbulb in May 2019, where he assaulted the woman in her 50s. She reported the incident to police, leading to Metropolitan Police's investigation and charges for four counts of rape. Crucial evidence was his DNA on the teddy bear used by the victim to push him away.

The court convicted Mustafaj based on forensic evidence and the victim's testimony. The judge highlighted the violation of trust in a domestic setting. This case demonstrates the value of DNA evidence in securing convictions for sexual assaults.
