Offence Summary

David Andrew Crowther, a teaching assistant, was jailed for 17 years for raping and sexually abusing a young girl under 13.

Full Description

David Andrew Crowther, 36, from the Colwyn Bay area, has been sentenced to 17 years in prison after being found guilty of raping and sexually abusing a girl aged less than 13 over a period of more than a year between 2016 and 2017. At Caernarfon Crown Court, Judge Huw Rees described Crowther as using the victim as a sex object to satisfy his vile, unhealthy lust.

The jury heard that Crowther warned the girl not to tell anyone, but she disclosed the abuse to her mother last summer, leading to his arrest by North Wales Police. Crowther denied the allegations in court, claiming the girl's account was untrue, despite his recent role as a teaching assistant in a secondary school with aspirations to become a teacher.

This case highlights the betrayal of trust by individuals in positions of responsibility towards children, resulting in severe custodial consequences.
