Offence Summary

Full Description

A former soldier from Hull, Daniel Black, has been sentenced to seven years in prison after being found guilty of raping a woman in Nuneaton. The incident occurred in March 2023 when Black spent the evening with the victim and later went to her home, where he carried out the assault.

Following the victim's report to Warwickshire Police, Black, residing at Arkwright Park in Hull, was arrested immediately. The 37-year-old, who had been medically discharged from the Armed Forces during the ongoing investigation, denied the charges of rape and assaulting a female over 13 by penetration. However, after a thorough police investigation, he was formally charged.

The case proceeded to trial at Birmingham Crown Court in September 2025, where a jury convicted Black on both counts. On 12 December 2025, he appeared for sentencing and received seven years for the rape charge and four years for the assault, to be served concurrently. Additionally, Black will remain on the sex offender register indefinitely and is subject to an indefinite restraining order prohibiting contact with the victim.

Detective Constable Heather Keogh, the investigating officer from Warwickshire Police, commented on the case: “I’m pleased that the court recognised the seriousness of these offences. Although no sentence can compare to the impact this has had on the victim, I’d like to commend them for the bravery they’ve shown throughout the investigation.” She further emphasised the force's commitment to handling such reports robustly, stating: “As a force, we take all reports like this extremely seriously and will always carry out thorough investigations to try and bring offenders to justice. I hope that Black’s sentence sends a clear message to others who harm, or seek to harm, women, girls, or vulnerable people that they will be dealt with robustly.”

This case, reported by Warwickshire Police, underscores the authorities' dedication to pursuing justice in sexual offence matters within the United Kingdom.
