Offence Summary

Momodau Bojang was convicted of raping and strangling a woman in her 40s, holding her hostage in his Southsea home over multiple days in October 2025.

Full Description

A Southsea man has been jailed for almost a decade after being convicted of rape and intentional strangulation.

Momodau Bojang, 56, of Bramble Road, Southsea, appeared at Portsmouth Crown Court on Friday 22 May 2026, where he was sentenced for the attack on a woman in her 40s. The court heard how Bojang held his victim hostage inside his home, refusing to let her leave, over a period of several days in October 2025.

Bojang had pleaded not guilty, but a jury heard how police were called in the early hours of Tuesday 28 October 2025 when the woman reported that Bojang was not allowing her to leave his address. Officers attended and located the victim before arresting Bojang. Later that same day, the woman disclosed that Bojang had raped and restrained her while she stayed at his flat.

Detective Constable Ellie Light from Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary’s Operation Amberstone team said: “I am very pleased to see Bojang face the justice he deserves for this awful crime. His behaviour demonstrates that he is clearly a dangerous and violent individual who believes he can treat other people deplorably with no consequence for his actions.”

DC Light praised the victim’s courage: “I would like to thank the victim for her courage in speaking up about what happened to her and for her support throughout the investigation and court proceedings. She has been integral in helping us put Bojang behind bars.”

Bojang was sentenced to eight years and ten months in prison and will remain on the sex offenders register for the rest of his life.
