Offence Summary

Joseph Edward Wright was jailed for three years and four months for attempting to incite a child to engage in sexual activity online and possessing and distributing indecent images.

Full Description

Joseph Edward Wright, 29, from Red Wharf Bay, Anglesey, has been sentenced to three years and four months in prison at court for attempting to incite who he believed was a 13-year-old girl named Morgan from Rhyl to carry out sex acts over social media sites Kik and Snapchat, unaware she was an undercover police officer. He also possessed and distributed indecent images of children as young as a few months.

The online conversation prompted police to seize his computer equipment, revealing the explicit material. Judge Timothy Petts at the sentencing highlighted the progression from messaging to arranging a meeting in Bangor and sending explicit photos. North Wales Police's undercover operation exposed Wright's predatory online behaviour.

This case demonstrates effective use of digital policing to prevent child sexual exploitation and secure convictions for possession and incitement.
