Full Description

A Fareham man, Sam Shulman, has been sentenced following his conviction for multiple counts of voyeurism. The 36-year-old resident of Highfield Avenue, Fareham, denied the charges but was found guilty by magistrates at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court in August.

The offences occurred between 2018 and 2019, specifically one incident on 28 July 2018 and three further incidents on 2 June 2019, all taking place in Gosport. Voyeurism involves the act of observing individuals in private situations without their consent, often for sexual gratification, and these charges highlight a pattern of such behaviour over several months.

On Friday, Shulman appeared for sentencing where District Judge Jonathan Taff imposed a one-year community order. This included up to 30 days of rehabilitation activities aimed at addressing the underlying issues, as well as 150 hours of unpaid work to be completed within one year. Additionally, Shulman must sign the sex offenders' register for five years, a measure to monitor and protect the public from potential reoffending.

To safeguard the victim, a two-year restraining order was issued, prohibiting any contact between Shulman and the individual affected. Financial penalties were also applied, with Shulman ordered to pay £620 in prosecution costs and a £114 victim surcharge. The case was heard at Portsmouth Magistrates' Court, with reporting by court and crime reporter Maya George for the Daily Echo.

This sentencing reflects the court's commitment to addressing sexual offences through community-based rehabilitation where appropriate, while ensuring accountability and public protection. No further details on the specific nature of the voyeuristic acts were disclosed in open court proceedings, in line with privacy considerations for the victim.
