Offence Summary

Shaun Rogers, a 29-year-old man from Washington, targeted two women with rape and sexual assault, leaving them traumatised with lasting emotional impacts.

Full Description

Shaun Rogers, 29, from Stridingedge in Washington, Tyne and Wear, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Newcastle Crown Court for committing rape and sexual assault against two women. The court heard that Rogers was under investigation for his offences against the first victim when he carried out the attack on the second, demonstrating a pattern of predatory behaviour.

One victim described the profound impact of the assault, stating she was left 'weak and broken and cried for days afterwards'. The second victim reported feeling 'dirty' and suffering from flashbacks and nightmares as a result of the trauma inflicted by Rogers. These accounts highlight the severe psychological harm caused by his actions.

Rogers admitted to the charges of rape and sexual assault during the proceedings. His defence, represented by Richard Herrmann, noted that Rogers has mental health difficulties, though this did not mitigate the severity of the sentence imposed. In addition to the 15-year custodial term, Rogers was ordered to sign the sex offenders register for life, ensuring ongoing monitoring to protect the public.

The case was reported by the Sunderland Echo on 28 January 2026, underscoring the ongoing issue of sexual violence in the region. Northumbria Police investigated the offences, leading to Rogers' arrest and prosecution.
