Offence Summary

Horace Nix, an 84-year-old man from Dover, was jailed for 10 years after being found guilty of indecently assaulting two young girls aged four and eight at the time of the offences.

Full Description

A father and son duo from Dover, Kent, have been sentenced to a combined total of 22 years in prison following their conviction for serious sexual offences against two young girls. Horace Nix, aged 84, and his son Malcolm Nix, aged 55, were found guilty of indecently assaulting the victims when one was just four years old and the other eight. The abuse, which spanned a number of years, came to light after it was reported to Kent Police in 2013. The victims, now in their 20s, demonstrated remarkable bravery in coming forward, as highlighted by Detective Constable Emily Hooper.

The case was heard at Canterbury Crown Court, where the full extent of the offenders' actions was laid bare. Horace Nix, residing at Manley Close in Dover, received a sentence of 10 years imprisonment for his role in the indecent assaults. The court proceedings revealed the prolonged nature of the abuse, underscoring the devastating impact on the victims' lives. Kent Police's investigation, initiated in 2013, meticulously gathered evidence that led to the convictions.

Detective Constable Emily Hooper, who led the investigation for Kent Police, commended the victims and witnesses for their courage. In a statement, she said: 'The victims and witnesses in this case have shown huge bravery and courage in coming forward and reporting these matters to police and for that I would like to personally thank them.' She further noted that Horace Nix and his son had shown no remorse for their offences, adding to the gravity of the case. This conviction serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to protect vulnerable individuals from sexual exploitation.

The sentencing at Canterbury Crown Court marks a significant step towards justice for the victims, who endured years of trauma. Kent Police emphasised the importance of reporting such crimes, ensuring that perpetrators are held accountable. The case, reported by the BBC, highlights the resilience of survivors and the commitment of the justice system in addressing historical sexual abuse.
