Full Description

A man from Bognor Regis, West Sussex, has been imprisoned for committing sexual assaults against two women while they slept. Harry Triggs, aged 24, targeted individuals he knew, exploiting their vulnerability in acts that shocked the local community.

The first incident occurred in August 2021, when Triggs sexually assaulted a female friend at her home. The woman was asleep at the time, rendering her unable to consent to the assault. This was followed by a separate offence in July 2022, where Triggs committed sexual assault by penetration against another woman who was in a vulnerable state and also asleep. Both victims were aware of each other, which played a crucial role in the case coming to light.

The investigation began after the victim of the July 2022 assault bravely came forward to report the crime. This prompted the other woman to disclose her own experience from the previous year. Sussex Police arrested Triggs in August 2022 in connection with the more recent offence and released him on bail while further enquiries were conducted. On 1 September 2025, he was formally charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual assault by penetration. Triggs was arrested again on 30 September 2025 after failing to attend court as required.

At Lewes Crown Court on 19 January 2026, Triggs pleaded guilty to all charges in November 2025, thereby avoiding a full trial. The court imposed a 36-month sentence, comprising 18 months in custody and 18 months on extended licence. Additionally, a 10-year restraining order was issued to protect both victims from any further contact.

Investigating officer DC Frances Block from Sussex Police commended the victims' courage, stating: “By coming forward the victim-survivors showed immense courage and bravery. Triggs abused his friendship with two young women, sexually assaulting them while they were asleep and unable to consent.” The case underscores the importance of reporting such offences, as highlighted by the thorough police investigation that led to Triggs' conviction.
