Full Description

A man from Blaenau Ffestiniog has been sentenced to over 12 years in prison for serious sexual offences against vulnerable women in the Colwyn Bay area. Gareth Druce, aged 33, of Church Street, was found guilty of rape following a trial at Caernarfon Crown Court. The rape occurred in 2022, while Druce had earlier pleaded guilty to a separate sexual assault that took place in 2021.

The court heard that both victims were unknown to Druce prior to the attacks. He deliberately preyed on their vulnerabilities, carrying out planned and targeted sexual assaults. The sentencing on Tuesday, 9th April 2024, reflects the severity of his crimes, with Judge Huw Rees imposing a custodial term of 12 years and 8 months. In addition to the prison sentence, Druce will remain on the Sex Offenders’ Register indefinitely and has been issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order. He will also serve an extended licence period of four years upon release.

Detective Constable Marc Jones of North Wales Police commended the victims' courage in the aftermath of the sentencing. “I recognise the courage and bravery displayed by the victims in this case. Both women have shown resilience and strength throughout the process, and I hope following today’s sentencing they can move forward in their lives,” Jones stated. He also highlighted the invaluable support provided by dedicated sexual offence liaison officers and partner agencies.

North Wales Police, the prosecuting force in this case, emphasised their commitment to tackling violence against women and girls. Jones added, “North Wales Police are committed to pursuing the most violent and dangerous of offenders against women and girls, and encourages anyone subjected to such abuse to contact us. You will be believed, and your information treated in the utmost confidence.” The case underscores ongoing efforts to protect vulnerable individuals and bring perpetrators to justice, as reported by Cambrian News on 9th April 2024.
