Offence Summary

Wayne Lightfoot raped two women in Cambridgeshire, ignoring their explicit refusals and using violence in one instance, leading to his conviction on multiple sexual offence charges.

Full Description

Wayne Lightfoot, a 36-year-old man from Peterborough, was convicted at Peterborough Crown Court for a series of violent sexual offences against two women in Cambridgeshire. The incidents, which exposed his predatory behaviour, occurred in 2022 and 2025, culminating in a 26-year prison sentence on 20 March 2025.

The first assault took place on 4 September 2022, when Lightfoot met his initial victim during a night out. They returned to her home and initially engaged in consensual sex. However, later that night, despite the victim clearly stating 'no' and demanding that he leave, Lightfoot forced himself upon her, raping her without consent. This act of violation highlighted his disregard for boundaries and consent.

  • Key details from the first incident: The victim had explicitly withdrawn consent, but Lightfoot proceeded aggressively.

The second incident occurred on 26 August 2025, during a date in Peterborough. After arriving at Lightfoot's house, the victim changed her mind and expressed her desire to leave. In response, Lightfoot violently assaulted her, seized her phone to prevent her from seeking help, and raped her. This escalation demonstrated a pattern of coercive and forceful behaviour.

Following a thorough investigation by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, Lightfoot, residing at Stanton Square, Hampton Hargate, stood trial at Peterborough Crown Court. He was found guilty of four counts of rape, seven counts of sexual assault, and one count of false imprisonment. On 20 March 2025, the court sentenced him to 26 years' imprisonment, reflecting the severity of his crimes. Additionally, an indefinite Restraining Order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order were imposed to protect the public from further harm.

DC Kara Halls of Cambridgeshire Constabulary commended the victims' bravery in reporting the offences, stating: 'It is thanks to their bravery Lightfoot's predatory behaviour has been exposed. Consent is everything. Consent can be given and retracted at any time; just because a person has consented before or you expect them to consent again, does not entitle you to anything.'

The case underscores the importance of reporting sexual offences, with Cambridgeshire Constabulary emphasising their commitment to investigating such allegations promptly and professionally through dedicated teams and support services.
