Offence Summary

Jamie Found groped a young boy's bottom after following him as he pushed his bike up a hill in Skelton, East Cleveland. He pleaded guilty to sexual assault and was sentenced to an 18-month community order at Teesside Crown Court.

Full Description

At Teesside Crown Court, Jamie Found, a 25-year-old man formerly from Skelton in East Cleveland, was sentenced for a serious sexual assault on a young boy. The incident occurred when Found approached the victim, who was pushing his bike up a hill towards the shops in Skelton. The boy described how Found had been following him, leading to the distressing assault where Found groped the child's bottom.

Emma Atkinson, prosecuting, told the court that the victim believed his attacker was under the influence of drugs during the incident. The boy was left frightened by the encounter, highlighting the significant impact such an offence can have on a young child. Found pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual assault, acknowledging his actions.

In mitigation, Paul Abrahams explained that Found had not been taking his medication properly at the time, but he was now under proper medical supervision to prevent any relapse. Judge Aisha Wadoodi, addressing Found, emphasised the gravity of the offence, stating: "What you pleaded to is a very serious offence and you know now that the boy was really frightened by what happened." She further noted: "You can understand why a boy of that age, when someone starts following them, would be very frightened. You might not think you are doing something that serious, but it has a big impact on a young child."

The sentencing reflects the court's recognition of the offence's severity while considering Found's circumstances. The case was reported by Graeme Hetherington, Crime & Court Reporter for The Northern Echo, based on proceedings at Teesside Crown Court.
