A complex investigation by the Metropolitan Police Service (Met) has resulted in the conviction and imprisonment of Benjamine Webb, a dangerous sexual predator who targeted vulnerable young children over several years. Webb, aged 30 and residing in Drayton Gardens, West Drayton, exploited his relationships with the victims' families to gain access to children aged between one and nine years old. He photographed and filmed them naked, sexually assaulted them, and distributed the abusive material online to other offenders.
The investigation began in January 2023 when officers from the Met's Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Intelligence Unit received a referral about an indecent photograph of a child uploaded to the social media platform Kik. Using specialist digital techniques, detectives identified Webb as the suspect after reviewing a vast volume of indecent online content. They matched photos of his distinctive tattoos, taken during custody, with those appearing in a video depicting the abuse of a child. On 14 March 2023, Webb was arrested for possession of indecent images of children and possession of cannabis. Seven electronic devices were seized, including phones, laptops, and a hard drive, which contained hundreds of images and videos of child sex abuse.
Analysis of the devices revealed offences against multiple children from separate families, all known to Webb in the nearby area. He offended against both boys and girls, with specific charges including making and distributing indecent images, engaging in penetrative sexual activity with a boy under 13, and sexual assault of a girl under 13. On the day of his arrest, officers safeguarded a child under the age of five who appeared in the material. Further examination identified four additional children who were protected as a result of the police work. Unfortunately, one victim—a baby boy featured in an abuse video—remains unidentified despite extensive enquiries, though Webb pleaded guilty to the offence against him.
Webb pleaded guilty to nine offences on 12 July 2023 and was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court on 4 April 2024 to 17 years and 9 months' imprisonment. Upon his eventual release, he will be subject to a stringent Sexual Harm Prevention Order and a Restraining Order, and managed by the Met's Jigsaw team to prevent reoffending. Detective Constable Samantha Thompson, who coordinated the investigation, described the crimes as 'truly horrific,' stating: 'This man preyed on young children and exploited them. What he did was wicked, building up relationships with their parents and ruthlessly manipulating them to think that he was a person who could be trusted.' She emphasised the Met's commitment to protecting vulnerable children and urged any potential victims or concerned parents to come forward, quoting Operation Snakeroot.
The case highlights the Met's use of advanced digital forensics and inter-team collaboration to dismantle complex child exploitation networks. One associate of Webb, who received the distributed material, was arrested two weeks after him and has also been jailed. This thorough police effort not only secured justice for the identified victims but also prevented further harm by safeguarding additional children.
