A Dunfermline takeaway manager has been placed on the sex offenders register after pleading guilty to communicating indecently with two young girls. Eddie Yan Kin NG, 47, who works at the Chinese restaurant Rice Delight on Linburn Road, targeted a 15-year-old girl and a 13-year-old girl with inappropriate sexual comments over a period spanning January to November 2023.
The incidents came to light when police were contacted following NG's repeated remarks. To the 15-year-old, who had simply asked a question about clothing in the heat, NG responded, "you could be naked if you want" and suggested she "just wear anything". He also made multiple comments about her sexuality and relationships, crossing professional boundaries at his workplace.
- NG asked the 15-year-old if she could be naked, replying to her clothing query with explicit suggestions.
- He made sexual remarks about her body and personal life on various occasions.
With the 13-year-old girl, NG's behaviour was equally inappropriate. He insisted she call him "Uncle Eddie", which she refused, and made repeated references to slapping her bottom, adding that he "might be sued" if he did so. Additionally, when she inquired about what "memories" he wanted to see on Snapchat, NG replied, "everything about you", further escalating the indecent communication.
Following a police investigation, NG was interviewed, cautioned, and charged. During the interview, he stated, "I don’t know what’s happening, I have not done anything illegal." Earlier charges alleging he inappropriately touched the younger girl's body and moved her hair were deleted from the final indictment. NG appeared at Dunfermline Sheriff Court for sentencing after his guilty plea.
Defence lawyer Brian Black described the actions as "some kind of bad joke that went wrong," noting that NG, of MacKinnon Place in Dunfermline, now fully accepts responsibility for the criminal conduct against two vulnerable young people. Sheriff Alan Findlay reviewed NG’s background report, expressing concern but acknowledging his acceptance of the behaviour's inappropriateness. The sheriff imposed offender supervision and required NG to comply with sex offender registration for one year. No custodial sentence was mentioned in the proceedings.
This case highlights the serious nature of indecent communications with minors, even in seemingly casual interactions, as reported by The Courier on their courts page.
