Offence Summary

Anthony Kirkbright, a registered sex offender, was jailed for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order by persistently contacting a vulnerable woman despite her requests to stop, following his previous convictions for sexual assault.

Full Description

Anthony Kirkbright, a 58-year-old registered sex offender from Blackburn, Lancashire, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) imposed due to his prior convictions for sexual offences, including sexual assault.

Kirkbright was released from prison in 2025 and soon after began forming an unwanted association with a vulnerable woman who was unaware of his criminal history. Lancashire Police officers made an urgent disclosure to her in October 2025, informing her of Kirkbright's status as a sex offender. Despite the woman explicitly telling Kirkbright that she no longer wanted him to visit her address, he continued to attend her home and sent her numerous unwanted text messages. Furthermore, Kirkbright contacted social services in an attempt to cancel her health-related care package, causing significant disruption to her support arrangements.

These actions directly violated one of the key conditions of his SHPO, which prohibited him from continuing or seeking association with any female after being informed that the association was unwelcome. Kirkbright was arrested on 5 November 2025 on suspicion of breaching the order. He was subsequently charged and remanded in custody.

At Preston Crown Court on 26 March 2026, Kirkbright pleaded guilty to the breach at an earlier hearing and appeared for sentencing. The court imposed a 30-month custodial sentence and extended his SHPO until 2036. He also remains subject to Sex Offender Notification Requirements.

Lisa Parrington, Offender Manager for the Management of Sexual Offenders and Violent Offenders (MOSOVO) team at Lancashire Police, commented: "Kirkbright is a dangerous offender who uses persistence and lies to gain access to women. He continues to pose a very high risk to women, and I welcome the prison sentence imposed on him by the court." She added that Lancashire Police prioritises investigations into violence against women and girls to bring offenders to justice and support victims. The case was reported via the official Lancashire Police news portal.
