Full Description

Luke Joseph Connor, a 43-year-old man formerly residing in Burnhope, County Durham, was sentenced to 15 years in prison at Durham Crown Court on 10 April 2026 for committing serious sexual offences against two young girls.

The offences, which involved heinous acts of sexual assault, left the victims so deeply traumatised that they were unable to come forward for more than a decade. Connor was arrested in the summer of 2025 following reports from the brave victims, who finally spoke out about the abuse they had endured as children under 13. He stood trial in January 2026, denying the charges, but was convicted on two counts of sexually assaulting a girl under 13 and one count of causing or inciting a girl under 13 to engage in sexual activity.

During the sentencing, Judge Richard Bennett described Connor as an 'opportunist child sex offender' with a 'deviant sexual interest in young girls'. The judge highlighted Connor's prior conviction in 2013 for child sex offences, for which he had served four years in prison and was already subject to a lifetime notification requirement as a sex offender. Due to Connor's assessed 'dangerousness', the sentence included an additional three years on licence following his release.

The court also imposed 20-year restraining orders to protect the victims. This case was investigated by Durham Constabulary, with Safeguarding Investigative Officer Ashley Marsden commending the victims' courage: 'Connor is a vile abuser who preyed on these young victims and traumatised them for life. I would like to commend the victims for their bravery and tenacity during the investigation and court process.' The conviction underscores the importance of victims coming forward, ensuring that perpetrators like Connor are held accountable for their actions.
