Offence Summary

Mohammed Din was sentenced to 14 years for 11 counts of rape against two vulnerable teenage girls in Keighley during the late 1990s.

Full Description

Mohammed Din, 47, from Keighley, received a 14-year custodial sentence in 2023 at Bradford Crown Court for 11 counts of rape, targeting both victims in the Keighley child sex abuse case from the late 1990s. West Yorkshire Police named him in a statement after reporting restrictions were lifted on 17 January 2025, confirming his conviction as the most severe among the group of eight men prosecuted.

The offences involved grooming and repeated rapes of two vulnerable girls, one aged 13 to 14, who were isolated and exploited through drugs, alcohol, and coercion. Prosecutor Catherine Duffy highlighted the primary victim's vulnerability, while she described being passed to other men and developing addictions to cope with the trauma. In her impact statement, the now 40s woman said: 'Nothing in this world can ever fix the damage I have been through - because of them I lost my identity.' Judge Ahmed Nadim addressed systemic issues, noting ignored reports from the girl's mother and authorities' blame on the victims themselves.

Din's extensive counts set him apart, involving both children in a pattern of sexual exploitation. The trial evidence included the victim's testimony of queuing abusers and forced sex work. West Yorkshire Police's painstaking investigation, as described by Det Ch Insp Vicky Greenbank, required years and immense victim courage, bringing closure amid historical failures.

This case, part of broader sentencings in 2023 and 2025, has prompted national attention, including calls for inquiries and a government audit by Home Secretary Yvette Cooper into grooming gangs' scale and drivers.
