Offence Summary

Adam Toms sexually abused a young child and was central to a paedophile ring that streamed child rapes online, leading to his 12-year sentence after confessing via emergency call.

Full Description

Adam Toms, 33 from Somerset, played a pivotal role in a paedophile ring that abused three children—a baby, toddler, and young child—through rape and assault between 2013 and 2014. His emergency call to 999 in September 2014, where he was heard crying and later admitted to abusing a child under five, unravelled the entire network. Toms participated in grooming families, streaming live abuses, and sharing exploitative content online with the group.

The seven men, based across England, coordinated via internet chats to drug victims, travel for assaults, and even target pregnant women for post-birth access. The NCA investigation exposed how they exchanged abuse material as currency and encouraged each other during live streams. Toms' confession triggered arrests and the seizure of evidence detailing the 'terrifying depravity' of their actions.

Bristol Crown Court heard harrowing details, with Judge Julian Lambert sentencing Toms to 12 years' imprisonment plus four years on licence, describing the crimes as 'the most grossly deviant behaviour imaginable'. All were registered as sex offenders for life. Ian Glover of the NCA called it the worst case he investigated, emphasising child protection efforts that safeguarded 21 more children.
