Offence Summary

Yuan Hang participated in a conspiracy to control prostitution for gain, trafficking and exploiting vulnerable women across Kent and beyond, managing sex workers and holding their bank cards.

Full Description

Yuan Hang, 39, of no fixed address, played a leading role in a sex trafficking ring that sexually exploited vulnerable women at brothels in 50 UK locations, including key Kent towns like Canterbury, Chatham, and Maidstone. Hang controlled sex workers by holding their bank cards and facilitating their forced prostitution, often under duress from family debts and illegal entry into the UK.

Hang surrendered to police months before the main arrests, following a warrant at his rented London flat. The operation involved coercing women into unprotected sex, with Hang managing logistics and finances. His involvement came to light through a joint investigation revealing the network's scale and the £430,000 in proceeds linked to co-conspirator Chung Fu Wang.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Hang pleaded guilty to conspiracy to control prostitution for gain and possessing criminal property, earning a sentence of five years and eight months. The court heard victim testimonies of confusion, isolation, and coercion, underscoring the exploitative nature of the crimes. Judge Philip Statman highlighted the profound harm inflicted on the women.

Kent Police's efforts, as reported by KentOnline, dismantled the ring, with arrests including dramatic footage of Wang's detention. This prosecution addresses sexual exploitation in the region, aiming to protect migrants and vulnerable individuals from such predatory schemes.
