Offence Summary

Cameron Mackay sexually assaulted one woman by penetration after plying her with alcohol and strangled another woman while exposing himself to her during an assault at his home.

Full Description

Cameron Mackay, a 37-year-old man from Rougemont Close in Salisbury, was convicted at Salisbury Crown Court of multiple serious sexual and violent offences against two women. The incidents, which occurred in Wiltshire, England, highlighted Mackay's predatory behaviour and resulted in a substantial custodial sentence.

In the first incident, around April 2022, Mackay invited a woman in her 40s to his house through a mutual friend. He plied her with alcohol until she fell asleep. Upon waking, the victim discovered Mackay sexually assaulting her, leading to charges of assault by penetration and sexual assault. This assault was part of a pattern of behaviour that demonstrated Mackay's intent to exploit vulnerable individuals in his home environment.

  • Key details from the prosecution: The victim was incapacitated by alcohol provided by Mackay.
  • Outcome: Contributed to Mackay's overall conviction for sexual offences.

The second incident took place in February 2023, when another victim, a woman in her 30s, encountered Mackay while he was walking his dog. He invited her to his address, where he exposed himself indecently. As she attempted to leave, Mackay assaulted her, climbing on top and strangling her with both hands in an act of intentional strangulation. The victim bravely defended herself and escaped the property, later reporting the attack to police.

Both victims came forward in around June 2023, prompting a thorough investigation by Wiltshire Police. Mackay was charged and stood trial at Salisbury Crown Court, where he was found guilty of assault by penetration, sexual assault, indecent exposure, actual bodily harm, and intentional strangulation. Detective Constable Dan Smith of Wiltshire Police's South CID described Mackay as 'a dangerous man who has committed serious offences which will no doubt have a long lasting impact on the victims.' He praised the victims' 'incredible bravery and strength' in reporting the crimes and testifying in court, emphasising that such investigations demonstrate police commitment to supporting victims of sexual violence.
