Offence Summary

Jake Wilson, a registered sex offender, was jailed for one year after breaching his Sexual Harm Prevention Order three times by obtaining a mobile phone with internet access and setting up social media accounts. This followed his prior conviction for sexual communication with a child.

Full Description

Jake Wilson, a 24-year-old registered sex offender from Aylwards Way, Nether Wallop, was sentenced to 12 months in prison at Winchester Crown Court for repeatedly breaching a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO). The order had been imposed in October 2023 following Wilson's conviction for sexual communication with a child, which prohibited him from using phones or online social media to protect potential victims.

The breaches occurred on three occasions: in January 2024, February 2024, and most recently on 4 September 2024. Each time, Wilson obtained a mobile phone with internet access and set up accounts on platforms including Facebook and Instagram, directly violating the terms of the SHPO. The court heard that Wilson has learning difficulties and has been attending appointments with a specialist team, but this did not prevent the persistent non-compliance.

During sentencing, Judge Paul Dugdale addressed Wilson sternly, stating: "You did exactly what you were told not to do. This court has now run out of road, we have been lenient and taken your difficulties into consideration but the court has a duty to protect children and we tried to do this with the original SHPO and now we will do it by sending you to prison." Wilson, appearing in court wearing a red t-shirt, nodded and listened as the sentence was passed. In addition to the custodial term, Wilson must remain on the Sex Offenders Register for the next ten years.

The case was reported by the Hampshire Chronicle, with details emerging from proceedings at Winchester Crown Court in Hampshire. Hampshire Constabulary provided the image of Wilson used in coverage of the sentencing. This incident underscores the ongoing efforts by UK courts to enforce protective orders against sex offenders to safeguard children from potential harm.
