Full Description

Thomas Edeson, a 24-year-old man from Franklin Street in east Hull, was sentenced to two years' imprisonment in August 2021 for sexually assaulting a young girl and taking indecent images of her, forming the basis of a broader National Crime Agency (NCA) investigation into child sexual exploitation.

The case against Edeson began in May 2021 following a referral from the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) to the NCA. NCMEC had been notified by Google of Edeson's attempt to upload child sexual abuse images to the internet. Officers subsequently examined his electronic devices and confirmed the presence of illegal material, including images depicting the sexual assault of a young girl.

Edeson's conviction and sentencing in August 2021 triggered further scrutiny, leading to the arrest of his then-girlfriend, Toni Andrews, in December 2021. During the investigation into Andrews, Edeson was produced from prison for an interview with NCA officers. He admitted that Andrews had supplied him with additional sexual images of a child, as well as children's underwear, which was recovered from his home at the time of his arrest.

The offences committed by Edeson involved direct sexual assault and the creation and possession of indecent images, contributing to the high demand for such material in the UK. His actions were uncovered through international cooperation between tech companies, child protection organisations, and law enforcement.

Holly Triggs, NCA senior investigating officer in the related Andrews case, highlighted the broader context: 'The demand for images and videos of this nature in the UK remains appallingly high, and referrals from organisations like NCMEC are vital to identify offenders.' Edeson's imprisonment reflects the severe consequences for those involved in child sexual abuse offences.
