Full Description

A 50-year-old man from Oldham has been sentenced to six years in prison after being found guilty of rape and possession of indecent images of children at Chester Crown Court. Abdul Helim, residing on Grange Avenue, was convicted following a three-day trial that exposed his predatory actions towards a woman he met at the India Garden Restaurant in Frodsham.

The court heard that Helim and the victim had formed a sexual relationship, often meeting at the restaurant. However, in late 2022, Helim pressured the victim into an act she explicitly refused to consent to. Ignoring her objections, he proceeded to rape her, fulfilling his own desires despite her clear non-consent. This incident, reported to Cheshire Constabulary shortly after, triggered a thorough investigation.

Helim was arrested in October 2023 in connection with the allegations. During police questioning, he vehemently denied any romantic or sexual involvement with the victim, insisting they were merely friends who had never been intimate. However, detectives examined his mobile phone data and uncovered a series of explicit messages between the pair, which directly contradicted his claims and confirmed the nature of their relationship.

  • The messages repeatedly referenced their sexual encounters, dismantling Helim's defence.
  • Further examination of his devices revealed a collection of indecent images of children, adding to the severity of the charges.

Detective Constable Hannah Lamborn, who led the investigation for Cheshire Constabulary, commended the victim's bravery in reporting the offence and enduring the trial process. In a statement following the sentencing on 7 November 2025, she said: 'Helim is clearly a danger to women, he was aware that the victim did not consent, but he chose to continue anyway to fulfil his own sexual desires.' She added that the jury had seen through his lies, ensuring he now faces the consequences of his actions.

In addition to the six-year custodial sentence, Helim has been placed on the sex offenders register for life and issued with an indefinite restraining order to safeguard the victim. This case, as reported by Cheshire Constabulary, underscores the importance of digital evidence in prosecuting sexual offences and the resilience required from victims to seek justice.
