Offence Summary

Declan Sains, a 28-year-old man from Bishop Auckland, admitted to multiple sexual offences including inciting boys to engage in sexual activity and making indecent images of children after communicating with underage boys online last summer.

Full Description

Declan Sains, a 28-year-old resident of Bishop Auckland in County Durham, appeared at Durham Crown Court where he admitted to a series of serious sexual offences involving underage boys. The charges stemmed from incidents that occurred last summer, specifically in July 2025, though it appears this date may refer to ongoing investigations or a typographical error in reporting, with the communications and activities taking place in the preceding period.

Sains pleaded guilty to eight charges in total. These included two counts of causing or inciting a boy to engage in sexual activity, three counts of engaging in sexual communication with a child, and three counts of making indecent images of a child. The offences related to three underage boys, with Sains using online platforms to communicate sexually with them. He was described in court as a paedophile, highlighting the predatory nature of his actions.

During his court appearance in January, Sains connected via video link from HMP Durham, where he was already in custody. Judge Richard Clews, presiding at Teesside Crown Court, emphasised the gravity of the charges. The judge stated that there was an 'overwhelming likelihood, if not the certainty,' that Sains would receive a prison sentence. However, sentencing was adjourned to allow for a Probation Service assessment of the danger Sains poses to the public in committing further serious offences.

The case was postponed for five weeks, with Sains remanded in custody until the next hearing scheduled for April 16. This assessment was deemed necessary given the seriousness of the latest charges. The court proceedings were reported by The Northern Echo, with coverage by crime and court reporter Bruce Unwin, drawing on details from the Durham Crown Court sessions.

Related reporting from The Northern Echo highlighted similar cases in County Durham, underscoring a pattern of online sexual exploitation in the region, though Sains' case specifically involved direct communications with boys and the creation of indecent images.
