Offence Summary

David Norbury, a registered sex offender, was jailed for two years after breaching a sexual harm prevention order by entering an address with a child under 16 and failing to notify police of his online alias as required by the sex offenders register.

Full Description

David Norbury, a 52-year-old resident of Shores Green Drive in Wincham, Cheshire, appeared at Chester Crown Court on 25 November 2024 for sentencing on charges related to breaching court orders designed to protect the public from sexual harm.

Norbury had previously admitted to two offences: failing to comply with the notification requirements of the sex offenders register and breaching a sexual harm prevention order (SHPO). Specifically, he failed to inform Cheshire Police about an online alias, 'TrendyBear109758', which he was required to disclose under the register's conditions. Additionally, between 25 June and 27 August 2024, Norbury entered and remained at an address where a child under 16 was present, an action explicitly prohibited by his SHPO.

Judge Patrick Thompson sentenced Norbury to a total of two years' imprisonment, deeming a custodial sentence the only justifiable option due to the seriousness of the breaches. The sentence comprised four months for the register non-compliance, to run consecutively with 20 months for the SHPO breach. This latest conviction follows a similar incident three years prior, when Norbury received an eight-week custodial sentence for deleting his internet search history in violation of an SHPO at that time.

The case was prosecuted by Cheshire Police, highlighting ongoing efforts to enforce compliance among registered sex offenders. Court records indicate that Norbury's actions undermined measures intended to mitigate risks to vulnerable individuals, particularly children.
