Offence Summary

Fawad Hakimi was convicted of raping and sexually assaulting three women in Wolverhampton, along with related offences including fraud, burglary, and theft. He was sentenced to 24 years in prison and placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Full Description

Fawad Hakimi, a 29-year-old man from Wolverhampton, has been imprisoned for a series of violent sexual attacks on three women that occurred between February and August 2023. The offences, which included rape, attempted rape, and multiple counts of sexual assault, were meticulously investigated by West Midlands Police, leading to Hakimi's conviction at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

The first incident took place in April 2023 near Hakimi's home on Merridale Street in Wolverhampton, where he raped and sexually assaulted a woman. Subsequent attacks followed in the Wednesfield area, including a sexual assault on a woman walking home and an attempted rape in her residence in August 2023. Hakimi also committed fraud by using a stolen bank card from one victim's home at a local shop, and burglary during the home invasion. Additionally, he was found guilty of theft after breaking into a car and stealing earphones.

Despite denying all charges, Hakimi was convicted by a jury in March 2024. Forensic evidence proved pivotal: a jacket recovered from bushes near the attempted rape scene and a cigarette butt from the location yielded DNA matching Hakimi's profile. The stolen bank card usage further identified him, linking him to the earlier assault in Wednesfield.

The victims, supported by specialist officers from West Midlands Police's Public Protection Unit, provided crucial evidence through pre-recorded video statements to avoid facing Hakimi in court. One victim with additional needs gave evidence via an intermediary to ensure clarity.

On 12 April 2024, Hakimi was sentenced to 24 years in prison, with a minimum term of 16 years before parole eligibility. He will remain on the sex offenders register indefinitely. DC Harriet Griffin commended the victims' bravery, stating: "Forensic expertise played a vital role in this case but it is these courageous women who have helped convict a dangerous sexual attacker." DC Daniel Foley added: "We will always listen to victims and ensure that they are supported throughout the court process."

This case, reported by Greatest Hits Radio Black Country & Shropshire on 14 April 2024, underscores the importance of victim support and forensic science in securing justice against sexual predators.
