Offence Summary

Luke Carr raped a woman while she slept in a house in Peterborough on 2 October 2021. He was subsequently arrested, pleaded guilty, and was jailed for six years and three months at Peterborough Crown Court.

Full Description

Luke Carr, a 29-year-old resident of Tilton Court in Peterborough, committed a serious sexual offence by raping a woman while she was asleep at a house in the city on 2 October 2021. The incident came to light when the victim awoke to find bruising and confronted Carr, who falsely claimed that any contact had been unintentional as he too had been sleeping.

Following the assault, the woman confided in a friend and sought medical examination, after which she reported the matter to the police. Cambridgeshire Constabulary arrested Carr, and during his interview, he maintained his denial. However, forensic evidence conclusively linked him to the crime through DNA identified on the victim, prompting Carr to plead guilty to rape.

On Friday, 14 June, at Peterborough Crown Court, Carr was sentenced to six years and three months' imprisonment. The case was handled by Detective Constable Rosie McKenzie of Cambridgeshire Constabulary, who commended the victim's bravery in pursuing justice without the need for a full trial due to Carr's guilty plea. The sentencing marked the conclusion of a process that highlighted the challenges victims face in reporting sexual offences.
