Offence Summary

Ahmer Hamid, a man from Bradford, drove a teenage girl to a secluded place and raped her in 2022, leading to his conviction and a nine-year jail sentence.

Full Description

Ahmer Hamid, a 26-year-old resident of Bradford, West Yorkshire, committed a serious sexual offence against a teenage girl in the early hours of 2022. According to details presented at Bradford Crown Court, Hamid drove the complainant to a secluded location in his car, where he raped her. The attack left the victim in a profound state of shock, preventing her from immediately reporting the incident to anyone.

The case proceeded to trial in November 2023, where a jury found Hamid guilty of the rape charge. During the sentencing hearing on Tuesday, Recorder Richard Paige addressed Hamid via video link from HMP Leeds, now aged 29. The judge highlighted the premeditated nature of the offence, stating, "You drove her to a secluded place at night where she was alone with you." He emphasised the gravity of the crime, describing it as so serious that only an immediate custodial sentence was justified.

Recorder Paige also referenced a deeply moving statement from the victim's father, who described how Hamid had "stolen his daughter’s childhood." The father portrayed his daughter as a shadow of her former self, haunted by nightmares of the rape. The profound impact on the victim was a key factor in determining the sentence.

In addition to the nine-year imprisonment, Hamid was ordered to register as a sex offender for life and comply with a 15-year sexual harm prevention order. This order prohibits him from contacting children under 16 and includes a specific ban on approaching the complainant. He will serve two-thirds of his sentence before eligibility for release on licence. The case was reported by The Telegraph & Argus, with involvement from West Yorkshire Police, who provided the image of the offender.
