Offence Summary

Akram Nesseri sexually assaulted a woman he met for the first time in Lancaster city centre by luring her into an alleyway. He was sentenced to 14 months in prison and received a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

Full Description

On the early morning of 13 June 2024, at approximately 1:55am, Akram Nesseri encountered a woman for the first time on Middle Street in Lancaster city centre. Moments later, he lured her into a nearby alleyway off Middle Street, where he carried out a sexual assault against her.

Following the incident, Lancashire Police launched an investigation, which led to the identification of Nesseri as the suspect. He was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault and subsequently charged with the offence. The 24-year-old resident of Hammerton Hall Close in Lancaster pleaded guilty to the charges at Preston Crown Court.

On a date in late October 2024, Nesseri was sentenced to 14 months' imprisonment for his despicable actions. In addition to the custodial sentence, he was made subject to a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) to protect the public from further harm.

Detective Constable Lesley Barton of Lancaster CID commented on the case, stating: “Nesseri’s victim was simply walking home. She should have been able to do that without being sexually assaulted. Despite the long-lasting effect this crime will undoubtedly have had on her, she has shown an incredible strength and bravery throughout proceedings that I can only praise her for.” Barton further emphasised the severity of the offence, adding: “Nesseri chose to sexually assault the victim that night, his actions were despicable, and the custodial sentence he received last week reflects that.”

The case, reported by Beyond Radio on 4 November 2024, highlights the ongoing efforts by Lancashire Police to bring sexual offenders to justice and encourages victims to come forward, assuring them that support and action will be provided.
