Offence Summary

Mark Taylor, a predatory paedophile from Gloucester, groomed young girls online and travelled across the UK to commit sexual offences against them. He was jailed for 14 years and placed on the sex offenders register for life.

Full Description

Mark Taylor, a 49-year-old man from Gloucester, has been sentenced to 14 years in prison for a series of child sex offences committed against vulnerable young girls. Described by Gloucestershire Police as a 'predatory paedophile' and 'every parent's nightmare', Taylor systematically targeted females via social media, grooming and manipulating them before travelling significant distances across the UK to meet and sexually exploit them.

At Gloucester Crown Court, Taylor admitted to multiple serious charges, including two counts of meeting a child following sexual grooming, three counts of sexual activity with a child, and four counts of making an indecent photo of a child. He also pleaded guilty to two breaches of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order and three counts of arranging or facilitating the commission of a child sex offence. In addition to his custodial sentence, Taylor was placed on the sex offenders register for life, issued with a Sexual Harm Prevention Order for five years, and a restraining order prohibiting contact with one of the victims.

Detective Constable Bernadette Harding, who led the investigation for Gloucestershire Police, highlighted the devastating impact of Taylor's actions. 'He is a predatory paedophile who would travel great distances across the UK to commit sexual offences against extremely vulnerable children,' she stated. 'He would groom and manipulate them over these online platforms before travelling to meet and then sexually exploit them. The psychological damage caused to his victims was as significant as the sexual abuse itself.' Harding expressed hope that the sentencing would allow the victims to begin moving forward, knowing Taylor is now behind bars.

The case underscores the dangers of online grooming, with Taylor using social media to identify and target his victims, who were described as 'extremely vulnerable'. Gloucestershire Police's investigation revealed the extent of his predatory behaviour, leading to his arrest and subsequent prosecution through the HM Courts & Tribunals Service.
