Jay Hamilton was jailed for possessing 934 indecent images of children, including 397 of the most serious category A, and for breaching his sexual harm prevention order and failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements.

Full Description

A 42-year-old man from Carlisle, Cumbria, has been imprisoned following the discovery of a large number of indecent images of children on his phone and multiple breaches of legal restrictions imposed to prevent further sexual harm.

Jay Hamilton was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison after being found guilty on three counts of making indecent images, three breaches of a sexual harm prevention order, and failing to comply with sex offender notification requirements. Police investigations revealed that Hamilton possessed 934 indecent images of children on one of his devices, with 397 classified as category A, the most severe category involving the most explicit and harmful material.

The case was handled by the Cumberland MOSOVO (Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders) team. During his interview, Hamilton admitted to knowing that he had breached his sexual harm prevention order and failed to meet sex offender notification obligations. Detective Constable Jess Myers of the Cumberland MOSOVO team commented: "Making indecent images of children is a serious offence and our team are committed to rooting out individuals like Hamilton for their abhorrent behaviour." She further emphasised the role of MOSOVO officers in safeguarding communities by managing registered sex offenders and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.

The sentencing took place in early 2026, as reported by local news sources covering Cumbria. This incident underscores ongoing efforts by authorities in the region to monitor and prosecute individuals who continue to engage in child sexual exploitation despite prior convictions and protective orders.
