Full Description

A man from Wakefield has been sentenced to over eight years in prison for committing serious child sex offences, including sexual assaults on young girls and the creation of indecent images.

Roger Donald Sibley, aged 51 and residing on St Johns Square, was found guilty at York Crown Court of two counts of sexual assault against girls under the age of 13. He also admitted to two charges of making indecent photos of children and one charge of voyeurism. The court proceedings highlighted the profound impact of his actions on the victims and their families.

Detective Constable Dominic Holroyd from Harrogate Criminal Investigation Department commented on the case, stating: "The hideous actions of Sibley have had an enormous impact on the victims and their families. I’m pleased that the court recognised the damage his offences have caused and have put him in his rightful place, behind bars." He further praised the victims' bravery: "I would like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to the victims and their families for the immense bravery and resilience they have shown, not only to come forward and make the report to police but also through the court proceedings."

In addition to the eight-year imprisonment term for the sexual assaults and related offences, Sibley received a further two-month sentence for making indecent images. He was also issued with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future behaviour and protect the public. The sentencing took place in July 2019, following a thorough investigation by West Yorkshire Police.

This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat child sexual exploitation, with the court's decision providing a measure of justice for those affected. The details were reported by the Wakefield Express on 2 July 2019.
