Offence Summary

Steve Lloyd raped and subjected a woman to controlling and coercive behaviour over several years in a campaign of abuse. He was convicted at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court and remanded in custody ahead of sentencing.

Full Description

Steve Lloyd, a 41-year-old man from Packmoor in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire, was convicted at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 2 February 2026 of one count of rape and one count of engaging in controlling or coercive behaviour. The offences, which formed part of a prolonged campaign of abuse against a woman, occurred over a number of years until the survivor reported the incidents to Staffordshire Police.

The trial concluded with the jury finding Lloyd guilty based on the strength of the evidence presented, including the survivor's testimony. Following the conviction, Lloyd was remanded in custody pending his sentencing at the same court on a later date. Staffordshire Police highlighted the determination of the survivor in coming forward, which enabled the prosecution to secure the convictions.

Investigative Officer Janine Shropshire, who worked on the case alongside Detective Constable Diane Sproston, described the abuse as abhorrent. In a statement released by Staffordshire Police, Shropshire said: "The abuse that Lloyd subjected the survivor to in this case was abhorrent, and I’m pleased we’ve been able to secure the convictions against him today. I want this to serve as a message to other survivors out there that we are determined to deliver these types of outcomes in court and to support you as much as possible throughout this process. Those responsible for these crimes will be robustly targeted and brought to justice." The case underscores Staffordshire Police's commitment to tackling domestic abuse and sexual offences within the community.
