Full Description

Ryustem Eredzheb, a 33-year-old resident of Ipswich, Suffolk, was sentenced at Ipswich Crown Court for attempting sexual communication with a child and attempting to get a child to watch a sex act. The case came to light after Eredzheb began online interactions in March 2024 with an individual posing as a 14-year-old schoolgirl, who was actually a member of a paedophile hunter group.

The court heard that Eredzheb initiated contact by asking the decoy to send a picture of her chest. Over the following month, he messaged her daily, escalating to sending a naked picture of himself and a video depicting him performing a sex act. These actions formed the basis of the charges against him.

On 6 April 2024, a member of the paedophile hunter group, disguised as a delivery driver, knocked on Eredzheb's door at his home in Ellenbrook Green, Ipswich, and confronted him about his online behaviour. The confrontation was live-streamed on Facebook. Following this, the group contacted the police, leading to Eredzheb's arrest and the seizure of his mobile phone, which provided further evidence of his communications.

Representing Eredzheb, Andrew Thompson noted that his client had no previous convictions and had arrived in the UK in 2016. At the time, Eredzheb was employed at a fish and chip shop and attempting to extend his leave to remain, which was due to expire that month. His relationship had ended after his partner learned of the offences.

Ipswich Crown Court imposed a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for 18 months, along with a 15-day rehabilitation activity requirement and 60 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, Eredzheb was made subject to a sexual harm prevention order for five years and required to register on the sex offenders’ register for ten years. The case was reported by the Ipswich Star on a date in late 2024, highlighting the role of vigilante groups in exposing such activities.
