Offence Summary

Ibrahim Ali sexually assaulted five women during massages at Nirvana Spa in Wokingham by forcing them to undress inappropriately and touching them without consent. He received a suspended two-year prison sentence and additional penalties at Reading Crown Court.

Full Description

Ibrahim Ali, a 36-year-old masseur employed at the luxury Nirvana Spa in Sindlesham near Wokingham, Berkshire, sexually assaulted five women during their booked treatments in November and December 2023. The incidents came to light after the women reported his inappropriate behaviour to spa staff, with one victim escalating the matter to the police in December 2023, prompting an investigation by the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS).

According to the CPS, Ali instructed the women to remove all their clothing and wear only paper underwear, disregarding their discomfort or objections. He then pulled down the covering towels lower than required for legitimate massage procedures and proceeded to touch them inappropriately during back and foot massages. All five victims, who were previously unknown to each other, provided strikingly similar accounts of the assaults, which formed a crucial element of the prosecution's case.

Ali had previously admitted to the charges of sexual assault. On Monday, at Reading Crown Court sitting at Reading Magistrates' Court, he was sentenced to two years' imprisonment, suspended for two years. The court also imposed a sexual harm prevention order lasting 10 years, required him to complete 40 days of rehabilitation activity, and ordered 150 hours of unpaid work. Additionally, Ali was mandated to pay £500 in compensation to each of the five initial victims and two further victims who came forward after his conviction, amounting to a total of £3,500.

Shilpa Shah, a lawyer from the CPS, commented on the case: 'These women should have been able to feel safe and relaxed during their treatments. Instead, Ibrahim Ali betrayed their trust, leaving them feeling distressed and violated. The fact that all these women were unknown to each other yet recounted strikingly similar offending was a crucial part of our case – and its overall strength meant Ali had little choice but to plead guilty. Ali’s actions were criminal and, as this case has shown, we will do all we can to secure justice for victims of sexual assault and abuse.' The case was reported by Duncan Welch for the Reading Chronicle, highlighting the breach of trust in a professional setting at the well-known spa.
