Offence Summary

Jake Brown assaulted and raped a woman in Peterborough, subjecting her to a horrific attack involving punches, bites, and attempts to gouge her eyes before fleeing the scene.

Full Description

Jake Brown, a 25-year-old man from Histon, Cambridgeshire, was sentenced to 12 years in prison following a brutal assault and rape of a woman in Peterborough. The incident occurred in the early hours of 21 January at a property in the city, where Brown repeatedly punched and bit the victim, pressed his thumbs into her eyes in an apparent attempt to gouge them out, and then raped her. The victim managed to escape and sought help using a neighbour's mobile phone, while Brown stole her phone and fled, only to be arrested later that day at Peterborough railway station.

Brown, residing at St Audrey Close in Histon, denied the charges of rape, assault causing actual bodily harm, false imprisonment, sexual assault, criminal damage, and theft. However, following a trial at Peterborough Crown Court last month, he was found guilty on all counts. Sentencing took place on Friday, 13 September, at the same court, where Judge [name not specified] imposed a 12-year custodial sentence, with an additional three years on licence. Brown was also placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life.

Detective Constable Helen Williams of Cambridgeshire Constabulary commented on the case, stating: "Brown subjected the victim in this case to an horrific and sustained attack. I’m pleased he has appeared in court and been jailed for this awful crime. I’d like to commend the victim for the bravery she has shown throughout the investigation and trial. I hope the conclusion of the court process will help as she begins to re-build her life." The attack was described as particularly vicious, highlighting the severity of the sexual and physical violence inflicted.

The case was investigated and prosecuted by Cambridgeshire Constabulary, underscoring their commitment to supporting victims of sexual offences and bringing perpetrators to justice. This incident serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing efforts to combat such crimes within the community.
