Jonathan Charles Evans, a 32-year-old resident of Breeze Hill, Malltraeth, Anglesey, has been sentenced to four years in prison for a series of sexual offences against children. Described by the court as a 'manipulative predator who cynically abused his position of trust to harm children', Evans exploited his roles as a former RAF Air Cadet instructor and school worker to target vulnerable young boys.
The offences, which spanned several years and involved multiple locations, came to light after reports to North Wales Police in 2020, though Evans was not charged until 2024. At Caernarfon Crown Court, the judge highlighted the grooming element in the case, noting how Evans had committed acts against several victims. Specific incidents included Evans 'cupping his hands' over one boy's genitals, an act the victim initially perceived as 'banter' but later recognised as abuse. In another instance, Evans sent explicit photographs of himself via Snapchat to a different boy and repeatedly requested naked images in return.
Evans was convicted on nine counts: three of sexual assault on a male, two of causing or inciting a boy to engage in sexual activity, two of sexual activity with a boy, and two of an adult abusing a position of trust. The first victim provided a statement detailing the profound impact of the abuse, stating it had caused 'emotional stress' affecting him 'mentally, emotionally, socially and professionally'. Anna Price, defending, acknowledged the 'abuse of trust' and a 'degree of immaturity' on Evans's part, noting he had no prior court experience and had faced significant stress during the delayed investigation, including suspension from work and unemployment until February 2025. The judge imposed a four-year custodial sentence, with all other terms running concurrently. Evans's parents described the case as an 'incredibly upsetting experience' but affirmed their support for him post-sentence to help rebuild his life. Following the verdict, Detective Constable Richard Dwyfor Clark of North Wales Police praised the victims and their families for their 'dignity and determination' in securing justice. He labelled Evans a 'selfish, manipulative predator' who had 'committed serious sexual offences' by exploiting children. The investigation received support from the Air Cadets, the school involved, the prosecution team, the court, and the Crown Prosecution Service.
This case underscores the severe consequences of abusing positions of authority in educational and youth organisations, with Evans's actions leaving lasting harm on his victims. The sentencing occurred in July 2025, marking the end of a protracted legal process that had kept Evans in limbo for years.
