Offence Summary

Kutab Miah was sentenced to 9 years for sexual activity with a child and rape against one victim in the Rochdale exploitation case.

Full Description

Kutab Miah, 35, of Ramsey Street, Rochdale, was jailed for 9 years at Manchester Minshull Street Crown Court following convictions for child sexual offences as part of Operation Doublet. The abuses occurred in Rochdale between 2005 and 2013, affecting eight victims aged 13 to 23 through grooming and rape.

Miah was found guilty of three counts of sexual activity with a child and one count of rape against one victim. The investigation exposed a ring of paedophiles who conspired to exploit vulnerable young girls, with one complainant detailing her ordeal after approaching police in 2012 amid national media attention on similar cases.

  • The victim described receiving calls from 'hundreds' of men seeking sex, illustrating the network's reach.
  • Two trials totalling 15 weeks included victim evidence that was rigorously tested.

Judge John Potter highlighted the victims' impact: 'I have little doubt that each of the victims have been affected by your abuse of them to some degree.' The group's sentences summed to 127 years, with Greater Manchester Police affirming their priority on child protection. The case's publicity encouraged other victims to come forward.
